Electricity bills are rising faster than wages for many British households, and solar panels were never a realistic option for a large share of them — rented homes, listed buildings, shaded roofs, or simply a roof that does not justify the install. Asymmetric Energy is developing a quiet, washer-sized generator that installs in the garage or beside the house, in the same way a heat pump would. It charges a home battery on a cheap lease or subscription. The company keeps the kit; the household keeps the power.
The first units are on the bench in the UK. Households can join the home waitlist to register interest when packs are ready.
Homes
Home power for households that will not reach lower bills through panels.
The unit is designed to put about five kilowatt-hours of useful electricity into home storage each day — enough for most of a typical UK home’s day-to-day use, excluding heating. It runs quietly, installed in the garage or next to the house. Power drawn from storage during expensive hours comes off the battery rather than the meter.
Two configurations are planned. A complete pack includes a home battery for households that do not already have one. A hoop-only version feeds an existing battery. Both are offered on lease or subscription terms, without a large upfront purchase. Asymmetric Energy retains ownership of the equipment; the household receives the electricity.
The product is aimed at households that need their electricity bill to fall and have no practical path to rooftop solar. Many homes already buy battery storage; this unit generates into that established pattern.
Scale
From home units to local grid support.
Funding interest supports the work of making a quiet home unit a commonplace domestic install. Once that market reaches scale, the next step is larger plant at street and substation level — equipment sized to support the local grid where domestic generation and storage are concentrated.
